NFL Championships: History in the Making!

Chicago Bears NFL Super BowlI am so excited! The Chicago Bears are heading to the Super Bowl after soundly defeating the New Orleans Saints 39-14 yesterday. It was a great game, and the Bears took the Saints to task despite having important players like Tommie Harris and Mike Brown out due to injuries.

Teams Making History

The Bears made history by once again taking the NFC Championship and heading off to another Super Bowl. Fans have waited 21 years for this event, and it appeared that it would be a repeat of their last visit to the Big Show, as the New England Patriots started out dominating their own championship game. However, the Indianapolis Colts pulled it out in the end, and this should prove to be an interesting contest. This is the Colts first trip to the Super Bowl as the Indianapolis franchise (the team was originally from Baltimore and hasn’t seen a Super Bowl since 1971).

Coaches Making History

Lovie Smith made history by becoming the first black head coach to head to the Super Bowl. Before he had a chance to indulge in his new celebrity, Tony Dungy joined him. This would have been the first Super Bowl with a black head coach, but now there will be two! Congratulations to both of these fine head coaches!

Tony Dungy is a bright, widely respected, and devoted coach. Lovie Smith is also a fantastic coach, even tempered, smart, patient, and loved by his team and fans alike. He’s the lowest paid head coach in the league (The Bear’s Club has never been known as big spenders), but let’s hope he is compensated appropriately for this phenomenal year.

Yesterday was an exciting day at our house, and I wonder if any of you have also been enjoying the playoffs. Do your kids laugh as you yell at the TV and cheer?

What an awesome season! It has been incredibly exciting and it’s not quite over yet. I can’t wait until February 4. Cross your fingers for the Bears!
