Nicole Richie’s Baby Shower

Nicole Richie is not known for being conventional so I suppose it should come as no surprise that the pregnant reality TV star recently hosted a very untraditional baby shower.

In a strange (albeit generous) twist, the mom-to-be donated all of her baby shower gifts to her pet charity– the Richie Madden Children’s Foundation—allowing 100 expectant and new moms at the Los Angeles Free Clinic to share in $200,000 worth of baby gifts.

Richie launched the foundation with her boyfriend (and father of her unborn child) rocker Joel Madden. The Good Charlotte singer said creating the charity was an idea the couple came up with when they found out they were expecting. “We grew up in Los Angeles,” Madden told reporters, “and we want our child to be a part of the community, and to know that there’s a responsibility to help the community.”

Amongst the gifts presented to the underprivileged moms-to-be were Baby Bjorn products, cribs, mattresses and toys from Fisher-Price. There were, however, a few gifts Richie’s famous friends gave her that she didn’t give away. Some of the items you can be assured Richie and Madden’s little one will be wearing once he or she is born in January are rocker tees given to them by actress Mischa Barton.

Barton told reporters that she gifted Richie’s babe-to-be with a series of shirts featuring the logos of famous rock bands, including the Rolling Stones and AC/DC. In addition, baby Madden can look forward to donning leather baby booties and an infant-sized black leather jacket.

Barton added that her pal Richie has already acquired a rockin’ wardrobe for her tot, “She is going to have the most fabulously dressed baby, I am sure, because she is so stylish herself.”

Paris Hilton’s 26-year-old BFF is due in a few weeks, but as Barton points out the couple does not know the baby’s gender so much of the infant’s clothing was purchased in neutral colors.
