Night Road by Kristin Hannah

Lexi Baill seems like the answer to Mia Farraday’s prayers. Mia has always been shy and quiet, not making friends easily. Her twin brother Zach is the opposite and through elementary school and even middle school Mia was included because she was Zach’s sister. High school was different.

Then Mia met Lexi, a former foster child still dealing with the skeletons in her family closet.

Jude Farraday, Mia and Zach’s mother welcomes Lexi into the family, glad that finally her daughter has a friend and is coming out of her shell. The three kids grow and change, as all kids do. Lexi starts dating Zach and Mia has her first boyfriend.

It’s senior year and the difference between Lexi’s life and Mia and Zach’s have never been more apparent. Mia and Zach can go to college anywhere, they have the grades and the means. Lexi is trying to figure out how to afford community college while working part time at an ice cream shop. The three teenagers worry about what the separation will do to their friendship.

Unfortunately senior year is full of parties and life changing decisions. When the final party of the year results in a terrible tragedy the lives of everyone involved will be changed in ways they could never imagine.

Kristin Hannah has a way of writing that pulls you into the story. Mia, Zach and Lexi are likable, average teenagers who do the things that normal teens do. Jude is a mom loving her kids with everything she has while trying to heal from being denied her own mother’s love.

This book will make you cry, over and over. If you are a parent there are so many places in this book where you can feel the effect of the choices these children make wish with all your heart you could have prevented it.

This is an excellent book, one that was hard to put down. Just don’t read it at the hair salon, you will be crying in the chair, I was.
