I think it’s safe to say that the animal rights group People For The Ethical Treatment Of Animals or PETA hasn’t exactly been Britney Spears’ biggest supporter. Which is why I honestly thought their most recent offer to the recovering popwreck was an April Fool’s joke.
But according to PETA reps, their goodwill gesture (at least that’s what they’re calling it) is the real deal. According to PETA bosses, they want the singer turned TV secretary to work as a real receptionist at their Los Angeles offices.
The PETA people say they were inspired to make the job offer to Spears after watching her recent performance as a secretary on CBS’ “How I Met Your Mother.”
In a handwritten note PETA’s president wrote:
“After seeing your excellent performance on How I Met Your Mother, PETA would like to offer you a real job as a receptionist. It could be for as little as an hour, and you would see – from the inside – why we are so concerned about issues like fur and homeless dogs and cats. As a ‘thank you’ for your willingness to learn and help, we would donate $1,000 to a children’s charity.”
No word on whether Brit will grace the PETA offices with her presence, though if she does I wouldn’t be surprised if she showed up wearing her fur-trimmed, leopard print bolero jacket.

Moving on… here’s another item I had hoped was a joke, but alas it appears as though it is for real.
“Dancing with the Stars” celebrity hoofers Melanie Brown and Joey Fatone are teaming up for another three-lettered network. The duo just confirmed they are planning to host a new TLC show called “The Singing Office.”
According to show producers the series is a tongue-in-cheek singing competition that pits different groups of employees against each other.
And if you think it sounds scarily similar to two other existing TV competitions the 32-year-old Spice Girl is setting the record straight.
“It’s not like ‘American Idol’ or ‘Dancing With the Stars,'” Brown recently told reporters. “It’s not a serious competition. It gives people a break from their everyday lives to have some fun with their co-workers.”
TLC execs say in each episode the former “DWTS” runner-ups will surprise employees at two separate workplaces with impromptu vocal auditions. From there the five best singers will be trained by professionals and later perform a song-and-dance routine in front of a studio audience.
If you miss the duo on TLC you can catch the singers turned ballroom dancers in May when they return to the ballroom for “Dancing with the Stars” 100th episode.
