It seems that the Denise Richards/Charlie Sheen divorce has now turned awfully ugly. Last Friday, the court ordered a restraining order that Charlie must remain at least 300 feet from Denise and his daughters except during supervised visits. The court did allow him a once a week visit with daughters Sam and Lola and a new hearing is scheduled for May 12.
What brought about this restraining order? Denise said in court that Charlie has pushed and shoved her and threatened both her and her parents. Charlie has denied all accusations and now telephone conversations between the two will be recorded as ordered by the court. Charlie and Denise had begun counseling to try to work out a custody schedule, but Charlie claims that Denise stopped going after two sessions. He also says Denise refused to allow him contact with daughters as of last week.
This all saddens me. I have liked Charlie for years and think he is a very talent actor. Of course, I also believed he has wasted some of his talent with his past indiscretions. By the mid-80’s, Charlie had made a name for himself in Hollywood with movies like Platoon, Wall Street, and Eight Men Out. I loved him in Major League and Hot Shots! Then, he seemed to be more interested in partying than acting. He was called to testify in the Heidi Fleiss scandal, dated pornography stars, went to drug rehab, was accused of physically abusing a girlfriend, and finally hospitalized in 1998 after a near fatal overdose.
Finally clean and sober, Charlie seemed to get it together. He took over for the ailing Michael J. Fox in Spin City, in which he starred for two seasons. After meeting Denise Richards on the set of Good Advice, they married in 2002. In 2003, he was cast in Two and a Half Men (a show I love). Their daughter Sam was born in 2004 and things looked great for Charlie. Denise announced she was pregnant with their second child, but shortly afterwards, they announced their separation. After Lola was born in 2005, the couple were seen together and even hinted to the fact that they had worked things out.
But, at the beginning of this year, Denise went ahead with the divorce proceedings and now this restraining order. I just hope that somehow they can work things out for the sake of their two beautiful daughters.
