No Mo Romo

For those of you who didn’t score an invite to this weekend’s nuptials of Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz you will be missing out on what will likely be the last time Jessica Simpson and Tony Romo are photographed together.

According to the Dallas Morning News, the NFL superstar and his blonde hottie are no longer an item. However, for whatever reason, Romo is said to be keeping his promise to escort Jessica to her sister’s California wedding.

How weird is that?

I mean how many freshly broken up couples do you know that reunite for a family wedding? The former Mrs. Nick Lachey already confirmed that she plans to be her sister’s maid of honor, which means half the night she will be preoccupied, so why bother asking her ex to show for the festivities?

It might be because, according to various media outlets, Jessica is “extremely fragile” right now after being dumped by both Romo and her former flame John Mayer, who has successfully moved on with his life with none other than Jennifer Aniston.

As for why the Dallas Cowboys quarterback took a hike after less than six months, one local newspaper is reporting that Romo was tired of dealing with the intense media scrutiny that comes with being in Simpson’s life and… get this… the pro athlete was sick of dealing with Jessica’s overbearing father, Joe Simpson.

Sources close to Romo say the Pro Bowler “really had it” with the paparazzi and felt his romantic relationship was distracting him from his football career, but mainly they say he was being driven crazy by the intrusive style of Joe Simpson, who’s been “not only telling Jessica every move to make, but now has begun to offer unsolicited advice to Tony on his career, endorsement opportunities and things that have nothing to do with him dating Jessica.”

Somewhere out there Nick Lachey is basking in the glow that is validation and possibly suppressing the urge to scream from the rooftops: “I told you so!”
