Tim Horton’s Coffee Shop Fires Single Mom for Giving Out a $.16 Doughnut–to a Toddler
Yep, apparently her manager wanted to make an example of what not to do. Don’t be generous to customers’ children thereby encouraging them to come back but instead, tell the little tike that he doesn’t deserve a doughnut.
Apparently a worker saw the toddler reaching for the doughnut from across the counter and just gave him one. Shame, shame–she didn’t pay for it and her manager fired her for stealing. Once the story broke the company offered her the job back (which she accepted) and offered a public apology.
Better Business Idea: If the manager was really concerned about economic recession and a tight economy. . .if he was consumed over the lost 16 cents worth of profit–he could’ve just sprung for it himself. It spares the company bad press, keeps the books 100% accurate (although seriously–16 cents????) and it is good customer PR.
I can’t believe she took her job back.
A Fishy Potty
A restaurant in Changchun city in China has about 20 fancy carp in a urinal in their bathroom. Above the trough there’s a sign that says, “Urinate here.”
I’m always concerned about eating in a restaurant where my dinner was previously residing in the urinal. . .but apparently these are ‘fancy’ carp. . .not dinner carp so it’s all good.
The restaurant insists that the carp are well cared for, that the water is changed daily and that urinating on the fish is not harmful for them. However, government officials are not impressed saying that the urinal/fish tank is “disrespectful to China’s fish culture.”
BBC’s Nake Office
I will admit that Americans are more prudish than our European counter parts when it comes to nakednicity. So maybe in Europe this is just not a big deal.
BBC is looking for offices to participate in one of their new reality series, “Naked Office.” The goal is to examine people’s attitudes towards their bodies, their employees and to examine how clothing affects office behavior.
I wonder how many takers they have so far?
So here you have it, my picks for bonehead business ideas of the week. . .or maybe the year.
