In Lauri’s media blog she talked of Anna Quindlen and ‘A Short Guide to a Happy Life’ and the importance of taking note of what is happening around you and how it is ‘a great reminder to not take life for granted, to notice those moments and even to purposely make room for them.’
Really, it’s all about noticing and finding the blessing of each day. This is by no means comprehensive but only a select few blessings I found to thank God for this week.
1. A week filled with music – from the hymns and spiritual songs in church that focused attention on who God is and all He has done for us, to rehearsing and being part of a massed choir of around 75 men and women, more singing this time with rehearsal for our church service for this week and some great songs as learning a new one. More about this likely in another blog.
2. A day with my darling husband enjoying the beauty of God’s creation and just enjoying being together. What a precious time.
3. Looking with my husband at some interesting aspects of prayer in the Bible including the way the Holy Spirit helps us when we don’t know what to pray, Romans 8:26-27, the Holiness of God and yet He is our Heavenly Father who hears our prayers, Luke 11:2 and that the prayers of God’s people come before God as a pleasing fragrance, Revelation 5:8 and Revelation 8:3-4 as well as several other passages.
4. Being able to praise God and pray together wih my husband, for our church, our family, world situations as well as ourselves.
5. Seeing answers to prayer in the lives of those we know.
6. The power of the written word – firstly and most importantly in the Bible and how God ensured it was written for our instruction
7. Also to some extent in other literature that helps us understand more of life. I have read some great books recently including a magazine of poetry and stories written by Christians which arrived in my letterbox.
