In continuing with the Preparedness Challenge, I am going to report on how my family did with our October preparedness goals and share our new goals for November. I would love to hear your progress as well as any tips that you may have had.
As a family we went on a two and a half mile hike. This was enjoyable, but took longer than I thought. Two year olds do not have very long legs. However, I was reassured that through passing the children between us to carry at times, that we could hike longer if necessary. I also stocked up on my water to bring it up to the required levels, but my husband thought it was just water to drink, so I do need to replace some of it. We have been having family prayer on a regular basis.
The goals I would like to do this month, and challenge you to join me are:
1) Stock up on flour and sugar. This usually goes on sale in November. It is a great time to stock up on all items that involve baking. You should also consider a safe way to store these items so that they remain bug free. You may consider purchasing big buckets for this.
2) Find and try three recipes that incorporate rarely used items in your food storage. My family is going to focus on using dried white beans. You may also consider finding and storing items so that you can use your food storage. For example you need gluten to make wheat bread.
3) For your family’s spiritual preparedness start having family scripture study every day. If you already do, you may want to focus on the quality of the time your spend together or find another way to help the spirit be stronger in your home.
Please share your progress or your family’s goals. I would love to hear how you are doing in this regard.
