Odds and Ends: Birthdays and Tailgate Parties

Do you have any parties planned between now and the onset of the holidays? Maybe you do a Halloween or Harvest party. We’ll get into those soon, but for now, here are a couple of tips for some other types of fall parties.

Birthday Party Idea

Instead of a typical, disposable party tablecloth, cover a table with poster board. Have all the kids sign it, adding various notes and doodles. Your child will have a great memento of the party.

Another option is to supply a smaller piece of poster board or card stock, one that will fit inside a large picture frame. Ask guests to sign it but reserve the center. Take a picture of all the kids at the party and attach it to the center. Frame it and hang it up in your child’s room. You can change it each year, with each new birthday party, if desired.

Tailgating Home and Away

For those who haven’t yet had the experience, tailgating is having your own party in the parking lot the day of the big game. Some people travel the country to watch their favorite NFL and college football teams perform. They get decked out in official team logo shirts, hats, and everything else you can imagine and they outfit their vehicles so that they’re well-dressed for team spirit too.

Of course, the portable stuff works too, including a cooler on wheels, or a handy drink blender or ice crusher, and then there are chairs, throws, tents, cushions, and more.

You don’t have to be at the game to get into it. Not all of us can travel the country to indulge our love of football. However, lots of cool tailgating gear can be used at home to throw a great party as well, or get together with friends. You can drive down the street to a friend’s house and set up tailgate camp. It’s almost as good as being there!
