My husband is famous for making protein drinks and slushies. I am famous for taking advantage of that skill by drinking the protein drinks and slushies. During the warm months we make slushies on a regular basis. Since this treat can be filled with sugar and fat we trim it down by using fresh fruit, yogurt or frozen yogurt as our main ingredients. Over the years we have gone through several blenders. We even destroyed the ones they said we could not destroy. Either the blenders were lost due to their lack of ice crushing power or the glass container broke. The container breaking has happened twice when they fell in our sink. So yes, we are terribly hard on our blenders. While ice crushing is a requirement we also enjoy using it for food processing and other fun meal ideas.
So, I am paying tribute to my new blender as it has the ice crushing power necessary to make all the yummy low fat slushie treats and protein drinks imaginable! When the Krups KB710 says it is high performance it means it! This blender has ice crushing power so strong there is no need to add water when you put the ice in. This makes for very thick milkshakes that will make you think you just blew your diet. It has so many options and functions that I can make anything from pancakes to salsa! I am having so much tossing things in my blender and whipping, chopping, pureeing, mixing and stirring it all up into delicious treats. The large container makes everyone happy since 50 ounces is enough for everyone to get some slushie or milkshake the first time around. My favorite part of having a powerful blender is the ability to eat healthy and encourage my children to do the same. Simply throw in a few veggies into your fruit slushie. Since this blender is efficient I do not have to add a lot of liquid or other ingredients to get a simple low calorie snack. I can also rest in knowing I can use it often without the performance suffering. I know this seems silly to love a blender so much but it truly has helped us make fun treats that are healthy for the whole family.
One of our favorite concoctions is strawberry lime slush. We simply throw in about 10 ice cubes, as many fresh strawberries as we can fit, fresh squeezed lime juice and about 1/2 cup of water. We blend it up and serve. I know that did not give you a recipe to follow but that is the fun of creating healthy snacks in the blender: creativity! Keep fresh or frozen fruit, ice, yogurt or frozen yogurt on hand to make slushies anytime. You may also want to keep wheat germ, flax or protein powder for an extra kick of health. Have fun blending!
