One of the easiest ways to save money is to recycle or reuse items. There are so many different types of items that we all use on a regular basis, that we forget have other uses.
Recently while cleaning up the kitchen, I noticed that I had probably over 100 of those plastic grocery bags that you get from everywhere including discount chains. While there are standard uses, such as carrying items in them and getting your groceries home, there are also many other ways to use these bags.
Trash
Use these bags to line bathroom trash cans. They are great because you just lift them out and can tie the handles or dump them in a larger bag. Sending a child out with a bag that size of trash is much easier than watching them drag and destroy a larger trash bag. Even a very young child can help with the trash if they have a trash bag that size!
Lunch anyone?
Use these small bags to take your lunch to school, work or the park. These bags are the perfect size for a small lunch all the way up to a fairly large lunch. They do a pretty good job of keeping colder food cold for a bit longer than a paper lunch bag would.
Wet Clothes
Depending on whether you frequent the pool during the summer months or not, a small plastic grocery bag can be the perfect accessory to the patio or beach. When you are finished swimming you are often left with a wet swimming suit and towel. What to do? Just stick them in a plastic grocery bag, tie the handles up and throw in whatever tote you brought. Keeps the suit and towel from getting everything else you own wet! Same works for “accidents” at school, daycare or preschool.
Make a Purse or Sack
This has got to be the oddest use I’ve ever found for these bags, but regardless, it’s clever and fun and I needed to share. Apparently someone came up with the concept to create a purse or sack from these little bags and not in the way you are thinking. Check out the directions here.
Pet Clean Up
These little bags can do double duty whether you have a dog or a cat. If you have a cat, they make handy little “gloves” to literally scoop the poop out of the litter box. Once you have it in the bag, flip the bag over and seal it up. Then deposit in the trash. Same goes for when you are taking Fido for a walk. Take a few with you and when Fido decides he needs to go it won’t matter where you are. You can clean it up fast with a recycled bag and drop it in the nearest trash can.
