We all know that Old MacDonald had a farm, and that on the farm he had all sorts of animals. But did you know that Old MacDonald also had a woodshop? I for one would never have guessed it.
I also didn’t know that Old MacDonald was really a woman, and – she was a sheep! Will wonders never cease!
But back to the point – she had a woodshop.
And in this woodshop, she had a whole variety of tools.
In fact, she had a saw. With a zzzt here and a zzzzt there.
She also had a drill. With a rrrr rrr here and a rrrr rrrr there.
In addition, there was a hammer. Tap tap here, tap tap there.
Her animal friends all gathered around, some bringing tools of their own, and others, bringing things to be fixed. Come in, everyone – you’re all welcome in the shop.
She used her chisel, with a chip chip here and a chip chip there.
She also had a file, with a scritch and a scratch. (I’ll let you figure out where they went – that’s right, here and there.)
The screwdriver has an unfortunate squeak. Well, we can’t all be perfect.
Then she painted everything – and what do you think she was making this whole time?
She was making a farm! That’s right, a model farm! So Old MacDonald had a farm after all.
I loved the illustrations in this book. The animals are all so cute and friendly-looking, and MacDonald herself is sporting a very fashion-forward apron. I also enjoyed the twist on the old familiar song – sometimes I get in a rut with what to sing to my children and it’s always wonderful to have some new options.
