Scrapbooking has literally grown in leaps and bounds in the past ten years or more. Everyday new innovative products are released or designed with the scrapbooker exclusively in mind. However, as the industry continues to grow and change, obviously so do the different trends. So what do you do when you have spent a fortune on a particular tool or other item that seems to have run its course?
First of all, you should use whatever you want to use on your layouts. Besides, who are those layouts for? You and your family are the ones that will enjoy them for years to come.
However, many past trends are starting to make a comeback lately. Just look around you at your various scrap magazines and idea books, and you might be surprised to see many of these old techniques and items used again, but blended in new ways so you can hardly notice.
Paper Piecing – It’s back and it’s hotter than ever. You can finally dust off all those old patterns you purchased way back, and use them again. Scrapbookers seem to be changing up the modern paper piecing by making them more three dimensional, using buttons, brads, glitter and ink to add pizazz. They aren’t the boring flat objects they once were deemed to be. I have always used paper piecing and never stopped, I spent so much on all the idea books and patterns I couldn’t let them go to waste.
Punches – I have seen a jump in new punches lately. New designs are still be released and used regularly. Old punches are being used again and new techniques are used on them to make them more modern and hip again. Great news since I have an entire Five drawer iris cart filled to the hilt with every shape and size you can possibly imagine!
Decorative Scissors – You know the ones that you have pushed to the very back of your scrap closet? They are finally back and new techniques are being developed to use them. I saw someone use them to cut paper and then inked the edges. It looks fantastic and you would really not have even realized it was decorative scissors that made that fancy cut, but she mentioned it in her supply list.
It is fantastic to see many of those old supplies become new again.
