On a Kid’s Bedroom Tear

It is finally the time to get that fourth bedroom ready. We are on a real tear about it.

Our home currently has four bedrooms and three kids. We always wanted the kids to each have a room of their own. At the moment, though, our youngest child doesn’t. He sleeps in a toddler bed that is in our bedroom.

The fourth bedroom, the one that is destined for his room needs some work. There is a hole in the wall that has been repaired, but the rest of the room has far to go. Previously, it was being used for a sort of transit storage. The closet in that room opens up to steps that lead to the attic. So, anything on its way up to the attic but that didn’t quite make it there (such as heavy boxes of Christmas decorations) wound up in that room.

Well, we got the room all cleaned out, which was the first step. Next, my husband pulled up the oriental rug that had been living in that room at least since we purchased it. I regularly vacuumed that rug, but never dared to lift up. It was in decent shape, although as we suspected, the floor underneath is a bit of a mess.

The rug, along with a few others that were the almost exact match, were posted on freecycle and snatched up almost immediately. Within an hour, the rugs found a new home with a dealer who is planning on cleaning and then selling them (if they were worth a great amount of money, well, I don’t want to know). My husband was on his own tear about those rugs leaving.

The next steps are to deal with the floor and paint the room. We did move a few of our son’s toys into it to get him used to the idea of it belonging to him.

He wants his room painted red with a cars theme, but I think that color might be a bit much. Any suggestions?
