We are getting down to the wire for graduation so here is the last graduation gift. A money lei, it can be given to a boy or a girl and you can use the school colors to make it even more personal. I have also seen these made using candy and other fun things tied in among the flowers.
Materials
Money- I used all ones
Scrapbook or construction paper- not to thick, you need to be able to easily fold and manipulate it.
Ribbon- I used curling ribbon, it ties easily and is pretty strong
Pony beads.
First thing, iron your money, this makes it easier to fold. Cut out money shapes from the paper, use as many as you have dollar bills. Funny story, my daughter’s friend thought I had OCD issues when she came in and saw me ironing money.
Accordion fold all the money and paper. You want the folds to be little, if they are too big the paper will not fan out like you need it to in order to make the flowers.
Cut two long pieces of ribbon, cut it much longer than you think you’ll need. I learned that the hard way.
Thread three pony beads onto one end and tie about six inches from the end.
Tie on a folded dollar bill, tie the two pieces of ribbon around the middle, add three more beads, tie a folded piece of paper, continue in this way until you run out of money. Place three pony beads after the last dollar bill and tie off.
Now is the fun part. Fan out the bills and paper into a circle. Roll pieces of tape into little tubes and use to secure the flowers.
I used hot glue for the paper flowers but don’t recommend that for the money.
When you are finished you have a beautiful way to present your favorite graduate with a money gift.
