2:00PM
Now that we’re heading north the crosswinds are no longer an issue. We still have more than eight hours to go, but the trip is going well so far. Our little guy is enjoying himself with so many things within his reach, like the teapot that he has decided to call a “ball.” I’m anticipating it will be naptime soon for him.
2:30PM
Our little man is asleep for his afternoon nap. I am starting to get hungry again. It doesn’t take much to suppress the hunger nausea and I certainly cannot eat anything resembling a large meal. An apple and some valencia peanut butter will do the trick quite well. As my sister and I are chatting about theology, I am happily surprised that I have not experienced any fatigue thus far.
3:00PM
Soon the rumble strips let us know that the highway is about to become a toll road. We stop for our entry point ticket and continue on our way. It takes my husband a bit longer and for the first time he isn’t right behind me in the truck. Soon enough I see him several cars back. I am not worried; this toll road is pretty easy to navigate.
4:00PM
My husband calls to see when we need to stop for gas. He has a half a tank and I have a little more than half a tank. We only have an hour left on the toll road so I tell him that we can stop after we pay the toll and are on our way to the last large city that we have to navigate through which also begins that last three hours of our very long drive.
5:00PM
As we reach the end of the toll road, our son awakens and promptly asks for toast. Of course we can’t make toast in the car but we do have raisin bread that he can munch on instead. The sweet raisins and hint of cinnamon make up for the lack of toasting and the addition of butter and honey … he’s happily eating. We stop and pay the toll with exact change and we are back on the road.
