I know there are a lot of women out there in the same position as me: they are active; exercising daily, but still can’t seem to lose those last few pounds. I have always been a very active person but I’ve also always struggled with my weight. My friends are amazed when I reveal any kind of weight issue with them because they all know me as the “super-fit, super active Sue.” They just assume, you do a little exercise and the weight will come off, but not so for me. It doesn’t matter how much activity I do, it’s my eating that affects my weight: I could run five marathons a week and I’d still struggle with my weight!
Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m not obese or even 15lbs overweight, but I’m in a constant state of needing to lose between 5-7lbs. For as long as I can remember I’ve always wanted to lose “those last five pounds.” My dream is for someone to say to me, “Congratulations, you’ve just won an all-expense-paid trip to Hawaii!” And my reaction would be “Yippee!” Not, “Hmm…how can I lose 5lbs before I leave?”
I’m not a compulsive overeater or closet binger, but I do tend to overdo it more frequently than I’d like to admit. To control those indulgences, I’ve tried a myriad of diets, tricks, pills (yuck!), incantations, but to no avail. The only thing that has ever worked for me is Weight Watchers.
I was a WW warrior after my second and third daughters with great success. But, since I’ve stopped having babies, and no longer have large amounts of weight to lose, I’ve been struggling to stay on the program. I’ll have one or two good days, but just can’t seem to string together a whole week. So once again, I’ve recommitted myself to this program. I know it works if I work it!
