Many of us enjoy bashing celebrities from time to time. I mean, come on – they seem to have everything at their fingertips. But, I also recognize that many celebrities help raise money for worthy causes and I like to recognize them when they do use their fame to help others.
Jennifer Lopez and husband/singer Marc Anthony were in Canada this week for the premiere of their film El Cantante at the Toronto International Film Festival. El Cantante tells the story of salsa legend Hector Lavoe. Marc Anthony plays the lead while Jennifer plays Hector’s wife, Puchi. I will admit that I am still a bit worn out with JLo from her P. Diddy and Ben Affleck days. But, I was glad to read that at the film festival, she and Marc announced they would perform on the single “One Day” at the International Peace Concert. Also joining them in the project are Sean Paul, Chris Brown, Eve, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, Cassidy, Floetry, Lyfe Jennings and Mario. If this sounds like an eclectic mix of music, it is supposed to! By combining sounds from hip hop, pop, Latin pop, rap, funk and reggae, the producers are hoping the song will appeal to a wide variety of people.
The United Nations International Day of Peace is actually September 21, but the concert will be on December 9th in Rome and broadcast live by Garson Entertainment. The two-hour show will also feature artists from around the world – both live and on tape.
Lopez will be in Los Angeles next month for the Noche de Ninos gala on October 7th. She will be presenting the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles’ Courage to Care Award to Johnny Depp. She was honored with the same award in 2004 for her humanitarian efforts in raising money for the hospital.
