One More Last Minute Easter Project!

Hurry! Easter is tomorrow. If you’re like me and you still don’t have enough decorations to make things feel truly festive, here is a quick project you and your children can make while the eggs are boiling.

Easter Candy Wreath

Items Needed:

  • Bath towel or similar size piece of heavy fabric (or pre-made wreath form)
  • Wired Ribbon (1-2″ wide or strip of pretty fabric)
  • Thin ribbon
  • Assortment of individually wrapped Easter candy

Optional:

  • Small plastic eggs or bunnies
  • Artificial flowers

Directions:

1. Cut the towel or fabric into three strips. Braid them together in a tight braid and secure the ends with a few stitches. Attach the ends to form a wreath.

2. Tie a large bow at the center (top or bottom, whichever you prefer).

3. Tie a small loop of thin ribbon to the top on the back and use this to hang your wreath.

4. Tie thin ribbon to candy wrappers and tie candy onto the wreath. You can thread the ribbons between the folds in the braided fabric and secure them from behind, so the candy looks like it’s popping out of the wreath.

5. Add other items such as eggs, bunnies or flowers if desired.

Variations:

Use a pre-made wreath form and cover it with wide ribbon, wrapping it around the form until it is completely covered, and securing the ends of the ribbon from behind. You can also make my Spongy Easter Wreath then continue with steps two through five.

Easter Wreath

If you do not have the necessary supplies handy, and don’t have time to run to the store, you can also use heavy paper plates and strips of fabric leftover from other projects. Cut a hole in the center of the plate to create a wreath form. If you don’t have the heavy paper plates, glue a few thin ones together to make a sturdy form. Cut out the center and decorate as described above.
