I realize that one of the things I love and most cherish about working at home on my home business projects is that I am not in an office, surrounded by other people’s “energy” and “vibes.” Having worked in all sorts of office situations, I know that there are times when a couple of stressed, ill, or snarky coworkers can change the energy of the entire workplace. I love when I do not have to tend to other people’s negative, hyper, or tense energy!
I suppose it makes me sound a bit anti-social, and I really am not. I am the same person who can sometimes get a bit lonely and need a lunch out with colleagues or ex-coworkers. But, what I don’t miss is how one crabby person or person who is having a stressful time can influence a whole group. When I get crabby, I am the one affected (and maybe my cats)—I am not slopping over onto other people or vice versa.
Working with other people definitely has its ups and downs and pros and cons, but there is no arguing that we humans have a way of affecting our surroundings with our own moodiness, exhaustion, short-temper, or flakiness. I don’t mean to imply that only negative energy or coworker behaviors can be distracting; even some positive ones can too. Working in my home office on my own, I am also not getting sucked into someone else’s “play” when they are feeling silly or want to talk about personal business or share home and family stories. Those coworker “vibes” can be as challenging as the negative ones. The great thing about a home business is none of that really comes into play.
Fortunately in a home business, we can minimize other people’s influences and energies and are just left to wrestle with our own!
