I did this. Yes, I did. I went on a potato fast about three years ago. I quickly acquired the nickname, “Potato Girl”. Very funny. Much to my surprise, it worked. I lost about 5 pounds in three days. I know that healthy eating is the way to go and normally I would do that, as I am doing now. Every now and then, however, you desire to take off a few pounds quickly for an upcoming event and you have no time to waste. This is where the potato fast comes in handy. You are getting a very nutritious, filling food and losing weight at the same time. Excellent.
People always think of the potato as the enemy when, in fact, this is not true. The potato is full of vitamins and minerals. It is a quick and easy meal to make in the microwave too. You do not want to stand over the oven waiting for one baked potato that long so I say, “Go Microwave!” for this. Some of you might frown upon this thought, but when you are trying to lose weight the last thing that you need to do is hang around the kitchen for too long.
Here are the rules for the potato fast:
Go easy on your food intake the day before the fast.
Drink as much water, coffee and tea as you want throughout the fast.
You can bake your potato, but microwaving is much faster, easier and it tastes good.
Eat a one small potato, approximately 2-1/2 inches in diameter, for all three meals. This is approximately 200 calories.
Cook your potato with the skin on. Eat the skin as well. It is healthy for you.
Season your potato with pepper, but if you must use salt, go easy on it. A dollop of low-fat sour cream only adds about 60 calories to your potato. This makes for a meal of 260 calories three times a day. Grand total=780 calories.
Do not fast on this or any fast for more than three days.
The day after your fast ends add foods gradually and do not overload your stomach.
Always check with your doctor before doing this fast or any other dieting measures that you plan to partake in.
