I always have trouble remembering to pay my bills. I usually manage to pay them all, but often I will remember a bill the day before it is due. As all procrastinators know, most of the time the day before the bill is due is not fast enough. If you mail a bill the day before it is due you usually end up with a late payment. Late payments mean fees, and depending on how late you are you can also damage your credit.
A few months ago I started using MyCheckFree to handle several of my bills. The way MyCheck Free works is it writes the checks for you for your bills, and makes sure they get to where they’re going.
One great feature of MyCheckFree in my opinion is that I can read my bills online. Several of my bills show up online already, MyCheckFree however has several more available online for me to view. When a new bill is posted they email me to let me know.
It is very easy to pick up your mail and then quickly get involved in other things going on a round the house completely forgetting to read your mail, or even where you put your mail in the first place. Having bills online makes it easy to access them when you need them without having to go on a search around the house.
For those bills that occur every monthly you can also schedule payments to be automatically drafted out of your checking account so you don’t even have to think about paying them at all.
I was a little wary of online bill pay in general to begin with. I didn’t like the idea of anyone or anything having access to my checking account and being able to draft out payments. Since I’ve started using online bill pay however I couldn’t be happier. Scheduling payments throughout the month makes my life much easier when it comes to keeping up with bills and has made it so I rarely if ever have a late or missed payment.
