Closeout sites sometimes offer great prices on great products, but you’ll probably have to look hard to find them. Products on closeouts sites are often refurbished, which means they have been returned by customers and fixed by manufacturers for resale. If you know the product you’re looking for and an estimate of how much it should cost, you may be able to find good deals using closeout sites. I’ll review two of the better closeout sites here today.
This is part of a series of blogs covering online electronics retailers. Take a look at a few reviews of comparison sites and coupon sites.
Closeout sites
● Overstock.com – You may have seen the Overstock.com television commercial which feature bright white colors and sometimes inappropriate innuendo (in my opinion). If you choose to shop at Overstock.com, you’ll want to read product descriptions closely to make sure you know if the product you are purchasing is new or refurbished. Overstock.com is one of the better closeout sites on the Internet, but you’ll still find a limited selection of products. Compared to its competitors, Overstock.com has newer models of electronics for sale, but lags behind if you are looking for last year’s top models, for example. This site is better known for a wide selection of media including movies and books and you’ll have to be patient if you’re looking for a specific electronic product.
The prices at Overstock.com are comparable to other closeout sites, but overall are not that much better than other retailers on the Internet. Overstock.com makes it easy for you to download rebate forms that are often associated with products you’ll find. The site layout is relatively easy to navigate with products broken down into broad categories.
● eCost.com – If find the product you’re looking for on eCost.com you can bet it will have a competitively low price. While a bulk of the products are refurbished, you can find a limited selection of newer models and products. The site is laid out well and you’ll know if the products you’re looking at are refurbished, since each one is clearly marked as such.
Check out the “Bargain Center” at eCost.com for some great deals on newer products. Again, the selection here is limited, but if you find what you’re looking for, you’ll probably notice at least a $30 to $40 discount compared to other retailers.
