She may be hosting one of the largest fundraising efforts for his wife’s No. 1 rival, but former President Bill Clinton isn’t holding that against Oprah Winfrey. The former politician turned author will appear on the talk show queen’s show next Tuesday to promote his new book about philanthropy and civic action.
Clinton’s new book, titled “Giving,” will be released on the same day his interview with Winfrey airs. In fact, according to Oprah’s website, the daytime diva scored the first sit down interview with the former president about his new endeavor. Which is not to say that Winfrey has never chatted with Clinton on air. She interviewed Hillary’s husband in 2004 for his memoir “My Life.”
Of course, Oprah may be able to relate a bit better to the former politician’s newest book. After all, she’s in it. Clinton’s “Giving” praises Winfrey’s “Angel Network,” which has donated millions of dollars around the world. It also references the star’s educational push in South Africa where she donated money to create a leadership academy for girls. Closer to home Winfrey has also donated millions to relief aid for victims of Hurricane Katrina.
After chatting with Oprah, Clinton will make the rounds on other talk shows, including Larry King’s and David Letterman’s.
Meanwhile, things are looking better for Madonna in her ongoing saga to adopt a young boy from Malawi. According to news reports, a Malawi social worker was finally given permission to visit the family in London and check on the welfare of 2-year-old David Banda.
The worker had been refused an exit visa to make the trip and there was wide spread speculation that the stay would jeopardize the singer’s efforts to adopt the boy. Luckily for Madonna and her husband Guy Ritchie a government leader finally approved the social worker’s trip and according to sources, the “Material Girl” is looking forward to completing the process so she can finalize the adoption.
Currently, Madonna and Ritchie have temporary custody of David.
