Organic Raisins

organic raisins
It’s been too long since I have updated you on things! Does that mean that there haven’t been any good deals? No! Maybe it means I’ve been too busy figuring out all the deals!

I’d like to talk to you for a minute about raisins today. Organic raisins, actually. Raisins are a big hit in my household. Everybody loves them, and I consider them close enough to raw (hopefully, they were dried at a low enough temperature!) Organic is usually my choice when it comes to produce. Why would I even be blogging about the deals for the healthier option if I was turning around and pumping my family full of pesticides?

I was just looking at the online ad for a local natural foods store called Nature’s Pantry. They have Newman’s Own Organic Raisins advertised this month at $3.19 for a 15-oz canister. It is regularly priced at $3.89. It just so happens that we’re running very low on raisins, but I wanted to do a little price checking around before deciding where to buy. Hop on over to amazon.com with me, will you?

If you search for organic raisins, you will find several listings.

There is the six-pack of 15-oz canisters; the three-pack of 32-oz bags; the 12-pack of 6-oz bags; even the 12-pack of 6-packs of 1.5-oz boxes (not to mention the 14-pack of 12 bags of .5-oz boxes)!! And of course, they are all at different prices, and Amazon has not yet done us the favor of putting a per-ounce price on their items like some grocery stores do.

What’s a raw food savvy shopper to do? Well, make an Excel chart, of course! So, I made a list of all my options, with a column for how many total ounces came in each set, the price, and finally, the most important part: the price per ounce! Well, since you’re dying to know, the listing that wins out is the three-pack of 32-oz bags, at about 18.8 cents per ounce. That beats out the local grocery store SALE price 21.27 cents per ounce. And that crazy package of .5-oz boxes? It costs you .28 cents per ounce!

Here is a link to the winner so that you can buy some yourself!

So that’s how it’s done. I’m going to stock myself up on organic raisins. Of course, when purchasing from Amazon, you want to buy at least $25 worth to get yourself qualified for Free Super Saver Shopping. So, you can buy twice as much raisins, or add on something else that you’ve determined is cheapest at Amazon. I personally have found lots there to buy. I will update you on more in the future.
