One of my most dreaded tasks as a parent is dealing with clothes. I hate washing, folding, and putting them away, but I also hate the inevitable rotation that is required for baby clothes. They outgrow stuff so quickly, that it seems I am constantly organizing, and re-organizing baby clothes. What makes this task even more daunting is when you feel compelled to hang on to baby’s clothes in the event you might have another baby of the same sex. It all just exhausts me.
I recently had to clean out my baby’s very tiny closet. We don’t have a dresser in his room because in the beginning, we really didn’t need one. But, the piles of clothes on the shelves in the closet are driving me crazy, and I just need to feel more organized about all of it. But, where to start?
Here are a few fun ideas:
Create your own dividers. If you have a divider (imagine just like in a clothing store) then you can easily see where 0-3 months ends, and where 6 months begins! I love this idea found here where you can use door hangers and turn them into closet dividers so you can easily organize your clothes on the rack.
Use a hanging shoe organizer like this to create storage for onesies. Onesies are great because you can roll them up pretty small. Stuff a few in each slot, and label the slots by size or color.
One good thing about baby clothes is that they don’t hang very low in the closet. Want to maximize your space? Find an old beat up dresser. Paint it to match your nursery leaving the drawers out. Find some wood to slide into the place of the drawers and you have perfect shelving for your blankets, sheets, burp cloths and diapers. A small dresser would fit perfectly into most closets and by leaving the drawers out, you can plainly see what you need.
Or, maybe you don’t have a closet at all in the space that you are living in. Then, why not create your own? I love this idea where you take an old bookshelf, put cute paper on the back wall of it, and a rod on the shelf and hang the tiny baby clothes that way!
There are countless ways you can get organized in your baby’s closet so that it doesn’t overwhelm you. How do you keep baby clothes organized?
