If you are like many people, your entertainment system is large, disorganized and full of potential. With so many videos and such restricted space, it can be difficult to keep track of all of the videos and multimedia items available for viewing. What’s more, it probably seems to be a futile task to try to organize them. After all, you will just use the videos again soon or have to move them aside when you want to watch something else.
However, in order to be able to quickly and efficiently find a video when you need it (and when it is most important) it is vital that you have some sort of system, however primitive, to help you stay organized. Here are some ideas to help you organize that entertainment center.
First, throw out everything that you do not use regularly,. If you have purchased and movie or CD that you once liked by no longer do, consider burning it on a computer and throwing the card copy away. You can also give it to charity and get a nice tax write off in addition to being able to help someone obtain and item that they need or want.
Next get rid of your old VHS tapes. These are fun and still can be used if you have a VCR player, but they really take up more space than you can afford. Anyway, these things tend to break in the VCRs anyway. If you have a few VHS tapes that you want to keep because you cannot live without them, then don’t worry about those. The large collection that takes up the bulk of your entertainment system should defiantly go.
In terms of organizing your DVD collection, you have a number of options. You can burn all of your movies onto a disk and throw the actual DVDs and their cases out (or sell them or give them to charity or to a friend). By getting rid of the DVDs, you eliminate the bulk and allow for more space in your home. However, it is harder to view the movies without the use of a computer. You may want to hold onto the DVDs until technology catches up with the times.
If you want to keep your entire collection in your entertainment system, then purchase a nice and compact stacking system that will help you to view and stack your items. The stacking system will ensure that all of your items are in order and easy to access. Also, when you reach for one DVD, you will not run the risk of knocking the entire system over.
In order to really save space, you can also throw your DVD disks into a disk binder. You will simply need to store the disk binder in your entertainment center. Everything else can go elsewhere, like in a box in the basement or attic. When using a binder, it will be quick and easy for you and your friends to sit on the sofa and flip through all of the available entertainment options, without having to bend over a DVD rack to choose something.
