Anyone who knows me knows that I love books. I visit the library every three weeks, I peruse used books stores and books sales and I take advantage of PaperBackSwap on a regular basis. I try to keep everything organize, because I value my books, and because organization also makes my life a lot easier, since books are so much a part of my life.
Last night as we were all gathered in the family room, enjoying an informal dinner of homemade pizza (yes, I let the kids eat away from the table about once a week, as long as we all do it together), my husband suddenly laughs heartily. He is sitting at the computer and nodding at me. Apparently he has found the website of a rare and used book store not too far from our home. It contains thousands of books, housed in an old historic barn. He knew that there wasn’t much that could keep me away.
Because of this store and all of its possibilities, I knew that I would need to make sure my bookshelves with their existing books are organized. And I knew that I would have to do some book de-cluttering. Will you come along with me as I reorganize my personal library?
I’ll share all of the tips I’ve learned as a bibliophile.
The first thing we will need to do is to take a look at the bookshelves. Are they overflowing, or do the books all fit nicely. Are there books in places and surfaces where they don’t belong? The reality is, of course, if you have more books than shelf space, you will either need to get rid of some books or add more book storage space. Decide which option works best for you and your home. Consider the other members of your household who might be tripping over your books.
