If you are a “party soul”, you probably don’t need much of an excuse to celebrate, but consider some of the following ideas, which might not have otherwise crossed your busy, sociable, effervescent mind.
“Stock a freezer” parties can be a lot of fun. Ask your guests to bring casseroles, spaghetti sauce, lasagna or anything else that can be frozen (except for unpleasant neighbors and unwanted relatives. Save them for another, more private occasion). The food is designated for a specific guest, perhaps a new mother, a surgery patient or a recent widow or widower. This party is unique among all other types, for in this case, the recipient of all the goodies doesn’t even have to be present. Following through on this type of party idea, ask guests to bring two batches of the same dish: the larger for the freezer and the smaller as a sample to be shared among your guests. This is the kind of party that will make you feel like a good Girl or Boy Scout when you are finished, not because you were prepared as the motto goes, but because you extended yourself to help someone in need.
How about a “surprise yourself” party? Huh, you must be saying. How can anyone have a party and not know about it? (No one drinks that much!) Well, here’s how that goes. One author invited some new friends over for a luncheon during a midwinter glut of football and such. After some food and small talk, she popped a bottle of champagne, declaring that it was her birthday. This eliminated the need for presents and she found herself surrounded with people whose company she enjoyed. This idea can be expanded. Just consider the possibilities. They might include: a surprise nudist bash (don’t blame me for whatever happens) a surprise masquerade (only the host in costume) or maybe a surprise reunion with a mystery guest.
Try something different the next time you are planning a get together. You might end up really surprising yourself.
