It’s that time of year and it’s starting to get exciting! If you’re looking for ways to add some Christmas spirit to your yard, you might like some of these:
Christmas Candy
Pick up some round stepping-stones and paint them with red and white swirls to look like peppermint disk candies.
Form a pool noodle into the shape of a candy cane and paint it to look like one. This makes a good decoration for the exterior front door or it can be hung from an exterior wall. Just tie a ribbon around it, make a big bow, and hang it up. Another idea is to make several giant candy canes and place them in a large pot or planter. Add stones inside the planter to keep them in place.
A simpler variation of this idea is to pick up ready to use plastic candy canes (about 18” – 24” tall) at a discount store and fill a pot with them. Tie a wide, pretty ribbon around the pot or around the grouping of candy canes and make or add a big bow.
Wooden Cutouts
Cut a large star from plywood, paint it, and attach lights around the outside edges. You can use any shape you like, such as a Christmas tree, an ornament, a candy cane, or some holly leaves. If you do holly leaves, try adding red rubber balls from the toy store for berries to give it greater dimension. For a Christmas tree, cut Styrofoam balls in half, decorate and glue to the tree for added dimension.
Wrap it up
You can even place oversized “gifts” beneath large trees that you have decorated. Place a rock or brick inside a box to keep it from blowing away then wrap it like a gift, using a plastic or vinyl tablecloth to protect against the weather (duct tape works well). You can find bows made for outdoor use and even add a large plastic candy cane.
