With kids home on spring break this week, parents are likely looking for ways to preserve their own sanity. My tip is to keep them outside for as much of the day as possible. While they are out there have them partake in the following spring-themed activities:
Garden: Give your child a plot of land and let him plant his own garden. Have him clear the space of weeds, sticks, rocks and other trash. Then, give him a packet of seeds to plant and a hose or watering can to moisten the dirt. Select plants and flowers that don’t attract a lot of bugs so that you don’t have to worry about spraying harmful pesticides on them.
Baby Pool: Depending on where you live it may not be warm enough to go swimming, but baby pools are perfect as outdoor bathtubs. Haul out the beach toys and some of the bath toys and let your kids sail their boats and rubber ducks in the pool. You could also add a bit of bubble bath to the pool, so the kids can have another element of fun.
Sandbox: If you don’t want to deal with a wet mess, then fill the baby pool with sand. You can buy sand cheap right now at home and garden stores, and even Toys R Us. Dump the sand into the pool and add some beach toys. If you don’t have a ton of toys, then give your kids a bunch of spoons, bowls and cups to play with in the sand.
Easter Egg Hunt: Easter may still be a couple of weeks away, but that doesn’t mean your kids can’t get a jump start on the festivities. Pull out your collection of plastic Easter eggs and hide them in the yard for your kids to find. If you are really ambitious, you could sponsor a neighborhood Easter egg hunt with a few of the other kids and parents. Or, if you are really busy, just have your older kids hide the eggs in your yard for their younger siblings.
