Overboard

One of my all time favorite older movies is Overboard. This movie can be seen on television stations USA, TNT, and TBS on occasion. I have watched it several times and enjoy it each and every time.

This 1987 movie stars Goldie Hown and Kurt Russell. Goldie plays a rich and snobby millionaire and Kurt is a father and a carpenter who is struggling to get by. Goldie hires Kurt to come to her yacht and remodel her closet. She is very insulting to him and disapproves of the material he used. She refuses to pay him and he falls off the yacht and into the water. She throws his tools after him.

Later in the night she is obtaining her wedding ring from the end of the yacht and falls into the water. She is found and is suffering from amnesia. Her husband decides not to claim her and to party while she is gone. However, Kurt (who could use some help at home with his boys) goes and claims her as his wife.

In the beginning she is very unhappy to think that she lived in such poverty and filth as Kurt and his children. However as time passes she is a good influence on the boys, cleans up the house, and begins to fall for Kurt.

When her real husband finally comes to get her she is very upset and disappointed that Kurt had lied to her. She leaves and goes back to her yacht.

Kurt and the boys do not give up. They go after her. She is miserable without them and jumps from her yacht to go to them.

To their pleasant surprise they discover that all of the riches belong to her family and not to her husband’s family. The children begin making out their Christmas list!

This is a really good PG movie. While its story is a bit unbelievable it does give insight to the viewer that there is more to life than wealth and living the high life.
