It is the time of year for family vacations and trips to visit the grandparents. Traveling with kids can be an adventure in itself. The best offense is a good defense and in this case that means being well prepared. I have always been know for packing a diaper bag for every situation and a suitcase with all the essentials and the some, When my older children were 4 and 2, we had a family reunion that required an 8 hour train ride. I have also packed many times for weekend getaways. I always want to be certain that I have everything essential so their are no meltdowns and no reason to spend money just because I forgot something.
What to Pack
*Two outfits per day: dark colors and patterns work best since they can obscure little messes before getting back to the hotel.
*Two pajamas for a weekend: always make sure you pack for cool weather or cool hotel rooms.
*Bathing suit
*Jacket
*Two pairs of shoes: my kids like to wear flip flops and summer sandals but I always insist on brining a pair of tennis shoes.
*Allergy medicine: if your children have allergies make sure you pack allergy medicine. You may want to bring allergy medicine just in case your child has an allergic reaction to a new food or something she comes in contact with. As a mom who has a child with a peanut allergy, I make sure I am prepared.
*First Aid Kit: keep a fully stocked one in your trunk or a small one in a suitcase if you are flying,
Toys that Pack Easy
Wikki Stix
*Play Doh
*Crayons and coloring books or plain paper
*iPad, tablet, or handheld game system if you love the tech side of things
*Paperback books
*Find It games
*Pipe Cleaners
*Polly Pockets or small toys such as Playmobiles, or small animal toys
Tip: Instead of bringing and irreplaceable night time essential like a blankie, stuffed toy, or favorite book, buy a special travel toy. Your child will be excited about a new item and you don’t have any fear of losing a precious item. This should not be a hard sell as children 3 and up are more flexible about lovies if they have any at all.
