Burma is a country in trouble. The economy isn’t good, the government is new, and it is under sanctions by many countries for human rights violations. To add to all that, many of the countries soldiers are children. Although Burma is a country trying desperately to clean up its act, problems remain. Child Soldiers International, a non-profit United Kingdom organization, is reporting that both military and civilian “brokers” search for children on the streets. When they find ones that can have their papers forged to show they are 18, they make these vulnerable children soldiers. How do you leave the … Continue reading

Let Them Be Little

Do you let your children be children or have they become mini spouses? All too often single mothers lean on their children too much. It’s so easy to forget that they are just kids when we need their help. It’s nice to have someone else to take out the trash, walk the dog or vacuum, but our worries should not be theirs. So many times I’ve seen little boys with the weight of the world on their shoulders. They will do without to make sure their siblings have enough, they worry about their siblings, their mothers, the bills. It’s very … Continue reading

“Alighting” is Not the Same as “Exiting” in Michigan

A woman in Michigan falls while putting items into her car, and becomes injured. Michigan has no-fault auto insurance, so the woman was paid for her injuries. Her insurer appealed that case. The Michigan Supreme Court has decided that she shouldn’t have been paid for her injuries after all, due to the way the judges understand the definitions of specific words in the policy. It started with a fall. Mona Lisa Frazier was in the parking lot of her condominium, and on her way to work. Before leaving, she put some items into her truck. She slipped while closing the … Continue reading

Don’t Let the Cold Weather Stop You

Although some people enjoy the outdoors even when it’s cold, others (such as me) don’t. I live in Wisconsin, so the winds can be biting and the temperatures can be downright intolerable. This is often when fitness can take a backseat. We let the colder months deter us from continuing a fit lifestyle. So we have to purpose and make a plan for what we can do during the next several months. If you own a treadmill, try dusting it off. Then move it to a place where you are more likely to use it. Don’t want to miss your … Continue reading
