“The Rescuers Down Under” is the sequel to the original movie, “The Rescuers,” although it came along thirteen years later. The Black Cauldron

“The Black Cauldron“, based on the novel by Lloyd Alexander, is a Disney animated feature from 1985. It’s quite possible that you’ve never heard of it. It’s the first animated Disney film to garner a PG rating and it is certainly a bit darker than the usual Disney fare. It actually bombed when it was first released to the theaters, but has since found a new audience since its release on DVD. Young Taran is an assistant pig-keeper who dreams of adventure. But one day, he learns that the pig he helps take care of, Hen Wen, is no ordinary … Continue reading

Fiddler on the Roof (1971)

It just doesn’t get any better than this – sitting at my computer, sharing with you all the reasons I love certain movies, and getting to relive each magical moment in my mind. “Fiddler on the Roof” caught my heart from the opening credits and has held me tight ever since. A little background on me – I have always been fascinated with Russia and was able to go there as a teenager. “Fiddler” takes place in a pre-Revolutionary Russian Jewish village called Annatefka, a poor, isolated village where the people depend on each other for their welfare. One such … Continue reading

Disney’s Aladdin (1992)

Disney’s “Aladdin” is another one of the great animated movies that came out in the 1990s. Even though I’d seen it dozens of times, it had been several years since I had the chance to watch it. I was amazed at how I actually remembered most of the lyrics to the film’s terrific songs and how much there was going on in the movie. Aladdin is a “street rat” who does what he can to survive. He and his monkey, Abu, take a lot of fun out of petty thievery and evading the Sultan’s guards. However, there are forces at … Continue reading
