Super Stars, Super Givers

The twins were born and photographed. The cash was handed over and we’re now learning where all that dough is going. According to a statement issued by the Global Health Committee earlier this week, roughly $2 million of the $14 million Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie made from selling snaps of their newborn twins will go to help fight HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis in Ethiopia. As you might recall Ethiopia is the country where their 3-year-old daughter Zahara was born. Now children there will have a second chance at life thanks to the Jolie-Pitt Foundation. Execs with the Global Health Committee … Continue reading

Forbes Announces List of Most Overpaid Movie Stars

Forbes is at it again – this time, uncovering the most overpaid movie stars. Now, before you start, let me state that they did it very scientifically. They looked at the star’s last three films that opened before January 1 (to give it time to be released on DVD). They discounted animated films, supporting roles, and any star that consistently earned less than $5 million per movie. To calculate the gross income for every dollar paid, those at Forbes took half of the worldwide box office per movie, then added the first three months of DVD revenues. They then subtracted … Continue reading

Calling All Iraq War Veterans—Your Chance to be a TV Star

The hundreds of thousands of men and women who risk their lives on a daily basis protecting our country are stars in their own right, only not all of them can brag that they made it on TV because of their jobs… until now. The mega-popular soap opera “All My Children” is holding an open casting call for an Iraq war veteran to play an injured veteran. That’s right; instead of taking the easy way out by hiring an actor to play the part, the ABC daytime serial is about to make history by inviting veterans to contact the show’s … Continue reading

“Dallas” Returning to Primetime

My mom’s upcoming birthday could prove to be an even happier day for her mom. My grandmother was a die-hard “Dallas” fan. For years during my childhood our Friday nights together consisted of dinner, “Dallas” and dessert of warm tapioca pudding. When the popular primetime soap went off the air in 1991 my grandmother’s Friday nights were never the same. Who knew she would have to wait nearly 20 years to see J.R., Bobby, Sue Ellen and the rest of the Ewing clan reunite? If she can hang in there until my mom’s birthday on November 8th she will be … Continue reading

Clay Aiken’s Lucky Baby and Famous Mother and Daughter Team Up for “Dancing with the Stars”

If Clay Aiken’s new son ever visits China he might just be hailed as the luckiest boy alive. The former “American Idol” contestant and his music producer gal pal Jaymes Foster welcomed Parker Foster Aiken at 8:08 a.m. this morning. That’s right, the kid was born on 8/08/08 at 8:08 a.m. (Incidentally, my youngest brother was born on the ninth day of the ninth month at 9:09 a.m., but that was back in the late 70s.) In China the number 8 is considered very lucky because the Chinese word for eight sounds similar to the word that means, “prosper” or … Continue reading

New Duets from Elvis and Country Stars

Isn’t technology amazing? Elvis Presley, the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll, has been dead for almost 31 years, yet we will be able to enjoy a “new” Elvis album soon. Just as we saw Celine Dion “sing” with Elvis a couple of years ago on “American Idol,” we will now be able to purchase a Christmas duets album featuring Elvis and some country music stars, including a few who weren’t even born before he died. The album, titled “Elvis Presley Christmas Duets,” will be released on October 14th. In his career, Elvis only recorded 20 different Christmas songs, yet he … Continue reading

ABC Reality TV Stars Hook Up… Maybe

Now here’s a romance that should make execs at ABC very, very happy. According to Us Weekly, “Dancing with the Stars” pro mover and shaker Karina Smirnoff (a.k.a. Mario Lopez’s ex-girlfriend) and “The Bachelor” Andy Baldwin (a.k.a. Marla Maples’ ex-boyfriend and Tessa Horst’s ex-fiance) having been getting their groove on… together… in public. Word of the romance leaked yesterday, but today Smirnoff issued a statement saying that the rumored hook up is just that—“rumors, rumors, rumors.” The 30-year-old smoking hot dancing queen told Us, “I’m sure Andy is a cool guy; however, there is absolutely no truth to any of … Continue reading

Stars Coming Out for Cancer Telethon

It’s not a major Hollywood awards show, it just looks that way on paper. Meryl Streep, Forest Whitaker, Charlize Theron, Hilary Swank, America Ferrera, Danica Patrick, Josh Brolin, Scarlett Johansson, Jennifer Aniston, Masi Oka and Lance Armstrong are just a few of the A-list celebrities slated to appear on the upcoming three-network telethon to raise money for cancer research. As I mentioned in a previous blog the hour-long “Stand Up To Cancer” will air live and commercial-free on ABC, CBS and NBC on September 5 and feature performances by big name musicians and emotional appeals from actors, athletes and journalists, … Continue reading

Stars Strike Back at Radio Talk Show Host

If you want to learn how to make enemies in Hollywood (and beyond) take lessons from Michael Savage. The popular (or once so) radio talk show host is feeling the heat from parents everywhere, especially those whose offspring are challenged with autism. On his nationally syndicated radio show last week Savage described 99 percent of children with autism as “brats.” (His exact quote was: “In 99 percent of the cases, it’s a brat who hasn’t been told to cut the act out.”) And he didn’t stop there. Savage went on to say: “What do you mean they scream and they’re … Continue reading

Sunday Travel Funnies: It’s All How You Look at It

What would you think if you were driving down a suburban street and found yourself at the end of a radar gun… being held by an 11-year-old? Would you slow down? Drivers in Louisville, Kentucky have. In fact, so many motorists have laid off the gas pedal when they see young Landon Wilburn that he has made front page news across the country. Since police can’t be everywhere, the enterprising boy took matters into his own hands. According to Wilburn, speeding motorists were out of control in his Louisville subdivision and when he shouts to drivers to slow down didn’t … Continue reading
