These art projects are fun for children and parents alike. They are so simple that anyone can instantly become an abstract artist. You might even want to display the finished products, so have your child make at least one piece of art using colors that coordinate with his or her room.
Pull the String
It is best to do this project outside if possible, because it can be a little messy. If the weather is not cooperative, lay down a plastic shower curtain liner, vinyl tablecloth, or some large trash bags before beginning.
Place one piece of poster board (you can cut large sheets down if you like) on the liner. Drape a few pieces of string over it, leaving allowing a little excess string to hang over the edge. Squirt some craft paint on the poster board or dabble on some poster paint. Place the another piece of poster board (the same size) on top. Press down gently.
Next, you will begin moving the strings around a bit, and then pull them out one by one. Gently peel away the top piece of poster board to view your creation. The top piece will also be interesting, so you can create two pieces of art at one time!
String Art
For this project, you will need some glue to attach pieces of string to the poster board in a random fashion. Once you have created a design you like, begin painting, and be sure to paint on the string. You might want to paint right over it as you create, or you might want to paint the string a contrasting color or multiple colors to make it stand out.
Another option is to make something a bit less abstract by forming a picture then painting it. You might also want to try writing your name or making your initials with string.
When dry, frame your artwork and display it proudly!
