Paint Your Way to an Affordable Halloween Costume

left

Face paint is a spooktacular way to get into the Halloween spirit. What’s more, you don’t have to wave a brush like Salvador Dali, Frida Kahlo or Pablo Picasso in order to look scary good on All Hallows’ Eve. And, even better, you don’t need to drain your wallet paying for elaborate face painting kits or fancy supplies. With a little time and energy you can whip up a batch of face paint using materials found around your home.

A safe and easy recipe for face paint requires: one teaspoon of cornstarch, a half teaspoon of water, a half teaspoon of cold cream, some food coloring, and several small bowls or containers. To make the face paint, mix the cold cream and cornstarch together until they’re smooth. Next, add water to the mixture and stir until everything is incorporated. Finally, add a few drops of food coloring until you get the desired color. Store the face paint in air tight containers until it’s time to apply it to your face.

It’s always a good idea to examine the ingredients of face paint prior to using it. This is especially true if you have allergies. The aforementioned ingredients are safe to use on skin, though you may want to test the final product on a small area of your face before Halloween to ensure you don’t have an adverse reaction.

If you don’t suffer from food allergies, then you might consider the following face paint recipe. It includes corn syrup, which makes the texture of the paint very smooth. The downside is that it is also quite sticky to work with if you don’t mix the ingredients properly.

To make the recipe you will need 3 tablespoons of cornstarch, one tablespoon of flour, 3/4 cup of light corn syrup, 1/4 cup water and 1/2 teaspoon of food coloring. Once you have gathered the ingredients mix the cornstarch and flour together until you get a smooth consistency. Next, stir in the corn syrup and water; keep blending until all of the ingredients are well incorporated and there are no lumps. Finally, add the food color to create the shade of your choice. Repeat until you get all of the colors needed to paint a Halloween masterpiece on your face.
