Painting your Child’s Face for Halloween

Most children love to wear a mask or better yet, have their face painted for Halloween. Somehow, the paint seems to add to the ghoulish night. As a parent, especially a single parent, you will find that face painting can take a little bit of time so if this is the route your child wants to go, I recommend you get an early start and use products that are safe and will last. Just make sure that you choose a product designed specifically for the age of your child and then follow the manufacturer’s instructions carefully.

You should also pay attention to the areas of the body the product is intended for, which probably means avoiding the eyes and mouth. In fact, some face paints will strictly advice that they not even be used around the eyes. The means application is very important. Keep in mind that if you have never painted your child’s face, you might want to try the product on a small place on his or her face a day or two ahead of time.

You want to remember that all Halloween face paint consists of color. By law, any color additives must b approved by the Food and Drug Association. Therefore, when you shop for face paint, make sure the product states it is FDA approved. In addition, take time to determine the ingredients of the product. As you begin looking around, be prepared to find hundreds of options.

The great thing about Halloween face paint is that you could go with something that is fluorescent or luminescent, which both glow in the dark. However, you will also find a number of options for matte colors, which are great for costumes such as the witch, Dracula, and so on. After your child has had a great time trick or treating, make sure you wash all the makeup off before going to bed. Otherwise, your child’s sensitive skin could become irritated.
