T-minus 15 hours…
The countdown is on to the moment millions of “Saturday Night Live” fans have been anticipating since the first time Tina Fey nailed her impersonation of Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin.
Forget Barack Obama vs. John McCain. Tonight Palin takes on Fey.
It’s on.
Alaska’s governor will make her “Saturday Night Live” debut alongside scheduled host Josh Brolin, who just happens to star in the new movie “W.,” about President Bush.
While “SNL” producers are staying tight-lipped about exactly how they plan to make the most of the Palin/Fey face-off one thing is for sure, it should be wickedly funny.
Fey’s dead-on impression of the Alaskan politician and mother of five has translated into record breaking ratings for the late-night NBC comedy show and now the world will get to see if Palin can dish it out as well she has reportedly been taking it.
Earlier this week Palin’s husband Todd told reporters that he’s not worried about his wife being able to keep up with Fey: “She’s been impersonating Tina Fey longer than Tina Fey’s been doing Sarah Palin.”
There is the possibility that Fey will out Palin the real Palin. Yesterday the real candidate told radio talk-show host Neal Boortz that she is relying on “SNL” writers to give her stellar material so she can come prove a point.
“I just want to be there to show Americans that we will rise above the political shots that we take because we’re in this serious business for serious challenges that are facing the good American people right now.”
Huh?
Somehow I doubt that “SNL” writers are going to have to dig deep for material given that most of the Palin sketches that have aired thus far have consisted of lines taken verbatim from the Republican vice presidential candidate’s public appearances.
