Pamper Your Pooch at the House of Mouse

Disney is all about the animals. After all, they don’t call it the House of Mouse for nothing. You’ve got a dancing duck, a goofy dog and twin chipmunks running around the theme parks on any given day, so I suppose it was about time that visiting pups got pampered at the “Happiest Place on Earth.”

Only don’t expect to take your furry friend on Space Mountain with you. Rather, Walt Disney World is going to the dogs in a different way. Starting today, you can drop off Fido or Fifi at Disney’s Best Friends Pet Resort. The upscale dog resort offers not just boarding, but also bedtime stories (think: “The Poky Little Puppy”) and a water park, especially for pooches.

The 50,000-square-foot facility has room for 270 dogs, 30 cats and assorted other animals, including birds, potbellied pigs and small mammals like hamsters and guinea pigs. Your gaggle of wonder pets can stay at the luxurious pet resort for about $40 per night. Though, you will have to pay more if your four-legged pal wants to partake in activities like doggy play group or Frisbee free throws.

If your pup is used to living it up at home, then you might consider placing him in an upgraded vacation villa, complete with outdoor patios and flat-screen TVs for watching videos like “Homeward Bound.” Truly pampered pooches can chill in 226-square-foot luxury suites with private outdoor play yards and personal pet concierges for about $75 per night.

Meanwhile, cats can purr in two- and four-story condos bordered by walking trails and flower beds.

The new pet resort is located on Bonnet Creek Parkway within the Disney complex directly across from the Port Orleans resort, which makes it easy for pups and their parents to interact while at the theme park. Pets can even be left for just a day without overnight boarding, and owners can drop by to visit or play on their way from their hotel to the park.
