Pampering Yourself in Late Pregnancy

The last weeks of pregnancy are exhausting. Your body is carrying a nearly full term infant. You may feel big, clumsy and very uncomfortable. Sleeping is difficult and you may be experiencing a wide variety of aches and pains. You need to spend some time taking care of yourself at this stage.

With your due date looming, you may feel that you are running out of time to get things done. You may feel guilty relaxing and feel that you should be spending every moment preparing for the arrival of the baby. I am nearly 39 weeks and have been working like crazy to get some writing work done, preparing for the baby’s arrival and getting the house in order.

Last night, I stayed up until late working and was up again early with my girls. I realized I have been doing way too much so late in pregnancy. These things may seem very important, but try to take it easy. I vowed to spend the next week finishing up the necessary work I have, but doing little else.

Labor day is fast approaching. If you are in the late weeks of your pregnancy, keep in mind that you need to reserve your energy for giving birth and caring for a newborn. Since sleeping at night is uncomfortable, try napping during the day to make up for the loss of sleep at night. This isn’t lazy, but a necessary step to combat fatigue and get the rest you need.

Consider a day at a spa for the ultimate in relaxation. Include a prenatal massage session in your day. If you can’t do a whole day in the salon, consider one or two services. A pedicure is a great idea. Chances are, you can’t reach your toe nails anyway, so why not have a professional do the job for you?

If you can’t go to the salon, spend some time pampering yourself at home. Fill the bathtub, light a few scented candles and relax in the water. This is relaxing and relieves pressure from your growing baby. Play some soft, relaxing music in the background to enhance the feelings of relaxation.

If you can’t afford a trip to the salon, have your husband give you a massage. Use a scented aromatherapy lotion, such as lavender for relaxation. Lower the lights and put on soft music to relax completely. I had my husband paint my toe nails the other night. Take care of yourself and let others pamper you in these last days of your pregnancy. You will be busy caring for a newborn in a very short time. Spend this time caring for you.
