You can use tissue paper to make these flowers, or you can use two ply tissues, such as Kleenex, if you plan to make lots of them.
If using tissue paper, start by cutting each sheet into squares. The squares can be large or small or you can make several different sizes, but you will need two equal size squares for each flower.
For tissues, you’ll only need one per flower if they are two-ply, but you can use more if desired. You can also trim tissues down to make smaller flowers.
Flowers can all be one color or different colors. You can even combine two colors for a single flower for a more interesting look.
Start by folding tissues or tissue paper back and forth lengthwise, as you would if you were trying to make a paper fan. Each fold should be approximately one inch wide. When the entire piece is folded fan style, fold it in half lengthwise. Staple the bottom about a quarter inch to a half inch up, making sure you staple through all the folds.
Begin separating the layers, pulling them apart gently to make “petals.” You want to pull the layers apart completely, all the way down to the staple. Continue pulling layers apart and fluffing until you are happy with the shape of the flower.
These flowers can be used for a decorative touch on a gift bag or strung together as a whimsical decor element in a little girl’s room. They can be attached to a background such as cardboard to make fun artwork. Another idea is to use green pipe cleaners to make stems and then create a flower arrangement in a fun vase. You can make your own vase by decorating a cylinder shaped oatmeal box or make a rectangular vase from a saltine cracker box.
