Paper Mache Bowl for Trick or Treat Candy

Do you like Paper Mache? It can be slightly messy but it’s fun. It’s simple enough that almost anyone can do it. Just protect your work surfaces, and you won’t have to worry about the mess. For this project, we’ll try something a little different. Start with a large plastic bowl and turn it upside down. Paper Mache strips of paper onto the bowl. Do several layers.

For the top layers, add strips and pieces of colored tissue paper or construction paper for an interesting affect. You can try orange and make your bowl look like a pumpkin or a jack-o-lantern. You can use any colors you like or use plain paper and just paint it once it’s completely dry.

Let the Paper Mache dry and the carefully remove it from the bowl. You’ll have a bowl shape although the top edges will probably be a little rough. If you like the way the rough edge looks, use it as is. If not, a grown up can smooth the edges off with a utility knife.

Trick or Treat Halloween Candy BowlAll that’s left to do is decorate your bowl and of course fill the bowl with candy! Add any decorations you like from spooky stuff to handprint leaves cut from construction paper. You might want to add shapes cut from craft foam, fabric, or you can glue on some raffia. Any of these will add a little more dimension.

Once you add candy, just make sure you save some for the trick-or-treaters that will be visiting soon! It might prove to be a very scary night if you run out of treats!
