The author of Slacker Mom continues with many more funny anecdotes throughout the book. Some of the other funny things she talks about include her first scrapbooking party, mall photos with Santa and the Easter Bunny, and housekeeping.
The laughs continue in Mad Dog Mom another little book you can probably read in one sitting (it’s just 79 pages).
The book has chapters like McMom (“My children saw their first drive-thru window on the way home from the hospital”), The Shirts Off Their Backs (“If you simply try on an all-cotton-shirt-that-must-be-ironed and decide not to wear it, it is not dirty and must be returned to the closet”) and It Takes a Heap to Make a House a Home (“ I desire order and beauty, but I have a schedule that lends itself to clutter and chaos”).
In another chapter the author talks about family vacations, a contradiction in terms she says. She writes, “That much concentrated time spent alone with your family is sure to set your teeth on edge.” And in Take Me Home From the Ballgame, she writes, “ The rules state that in order to be considered for membership in The Loyal Order of Normal American Families, you must occasionally gather everyone together for a shared recreational experience. Luckily the rules do not say that all of the members must be willing participants. You get points even if some members are slumped in the backseat plotting the demise of the rest of the family.”
Both books say things that many of us parents think but would not dare voice, sometimes not even to ourselves. And both point out that it’s okay not to strive to be the perfect or super mom and they do it in a humorous way while making excellent points. So if you are looking for a few good laughs I highly recommend these two books.
