Paris Hilton Receives Royal Treatment In Jail

Just when you thought the Pop Culture blog had become a Paris-free zone-—BAM-—the celebutante strikes again. The hotel heiress is making headlines again, though this time it’s not for shenanigans that took place outside of her jailhouse cell, but rather what occurred when the party princess was behind bars.

According to news reports, the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department has opened an investigation into allegations that the 26-year-old millionairess received special treatment during her 23 days in jail for violating probation in an alcohol-related reckless driving case.

What? Paris Hilton received star treatment behind bars? Come on…

In all seriousness, according to sheriff’s deputies an internal probe is underway to examine whether the drama queen was given free access to a cordless phone instead of being forced to wait in line to use a pay phone like other inmates. In addition, there are claims that Hilton received a “new jail uniform instead of the recycled ones given to many inmates” and that her mail was “delivered by a captain instead of inmate trusties.”

We won’t know if the allegations are true until the investigation is complete, but would you be surprised if all of them proved to be fact? Let’s face it; can you really image Paris Hilton standing in line to speak on a pay phone in front of a string of other inmates who could have possibly eavesdropped on her conversations? What’s more, if she in fact did request a “new jail uniform” because she couldn’t bear the thought of wearing a used one, how could she possibly be expected to use the same pay phone that other inmates had (ewww) touched (ick) before she got her precious hands on it?

News sources say its members brought the allegations to the attention of the department’s union, the Association for Los Angeles Deputy Sheriffs. Translation: once the party princess was sprung someone on the inside ratted her out.

According to a sheriff’s spokesperson, the claims that Hilton received preferential treatment differ from the department’s own information about Hilton’s incarceration.

“We’re going to investigate it and get to the bottom of it and find out exactly what happened,” the sheriff’s department spokesperson told news reporters.

You’ll recall the department was also accused of granting Hilton special treatment when Sheriff Lee Baca released her from jail after only three days for “alleged” medical reasons. She was sent back to jail after one night and Baca was cleared on any wrongdoing.
