Everyone has probably seen the public service announcement featuring Montel Williams as spokesman for prescription assistance for people all across America. This compaing gives some information on the announcement but it doesn’t go into details. I did some research and found out a lot.
There are many people without prescription coverage. They may have had the money to go to the doctor and pay for one prescription, but if someone has a disease or condition that requires a prescription to maintain their health, they may not be able to afford their prescriptions every month. In some situations, the elderly may have a certain amount allowed to spend each month for prescriptions. If something new develops, medications change or the price increases, they may not always be able to get all their medications that they need to maintain good health. In some instances, it has been said that sometimes people must choose between prescriptions and food.
This program is called Partnership for Prescription Assistance, or PPA. Its goal is to get more people qualified for assistance on their medications so they can afford it. They offer more than 475 patient assistance programs. There are more than 2500 medications that are eligible with this program.
When it comes to answering the questions: Can non-citizens be eligible? Can Medicare/Medicaid participants be eligible? Who qualifies? How much will I have to pay out of pocket? The answer was the same for all. Each Patient assistance program that they are linked to has its own eligibility requirements. They recommend that you fill out a step by step form on their website to see what you qualify for. Each income guideline is different from state to state.
Some of these programs don’t advertise or you may not otherwise know they exist. I feel like this is a safe program to use and could be very beneficial to anyone who may need prescription coverage. For those who have low or no income and require medications, they may receive their prescriptions for free or at a very low fee. Its worth checking into this program if you or someone you know has little or no prescription coverage. The website is informative, but they also offer a toll free number to call if you need to speak to someone.
The toll free number to call for more information is: 888-477-2669
