Number of Players: number of players at the party
Ages: Old enough to walk
Materials: Party favors and a LOT of String
This is a fun game for kids, or even adult parties where the host is giving out prizes or favors to the guests. Make sure there is at least one favor or prize per guest. You’ll need to get favors that you can easily tie a piece of string to.
Tie each favor to the end of a very long string, the longer the string is, the more fun it is to play. Each player gets a free end of twine, and must follow the end and untangle it wherever it goes, eventually leading to his or her prize.
For the best results and the most fun, place the strings and prizes out a day or two in advance so you have plenty of time to set the game up. Here’s where it can be a lot of fun. Get creative with the placement of strings. Run the strings from room to room, up and down stairs, over and under furniture, through furniture legs, behind pictures, into drawers and cupboards and through any other ingenious maze you can devise.
Try to cross the paths of the strings as often as possible so that the players themselves can get tangled up each time they cross each other’s path. Crossing paths can be made even more fun by putting a time limit on the “untangling” process, so the players are in a hurry to complete their tasks.
The game works well for a children’s birthday party, but it can also be used at adult parties too. It can be a lot of fun at a bridal or baby shower. At a bridal shower, the guests can search for the favors like the children’s game. At a baby shower, the objects “strung” could be smaller presents, like rattles or bibs for the new bundle of joy.
