Not too long ago I went to get a pedicure. I talked it up to Jessie about how we were going to get our toes done. I thought she’d enjoy it and we’d have a great time. She refused to sit in the chair so I had to hold her on my lap while I got my toes done. She did lighten up when she was offered a juice box and crackers. She let the manicurist paint her nails.
The day we went to Once Upon a Child to shop for Christmas dresses I went to the salon next door to get my eyebrows done. Jessie knew the drill this time. She jumped into the chair next to mine and started to say, “Shoes off,” and try to take off her shoes. I had to convince her that we weren’t there for our toes. The manicurist painted her nails.
I have wanted to get my toes done so I started talking to Jessie about it. This time Jessie was very excited. She kept saying, “Toes done”. I wanted to do it on the day that she had her three-year dental check-up, but we ran out of time. We were able to go after her traumatic visit with Santa.
After our visit to Santa we went home to have a nap. Jessie knew that we were getting our toes done so she did not nap. We headed off to the new salon next to the new Tom Thumb. The salon was very nice and everyone was so kind. Jessie climbed into the chair and dangled her feet in the water after I took off her shoes and rolled up her pants. She opted for a blue polish and the manicurist put silver glitter on top.
We’ll have to do this more often.
